A mood: listen to Avishag C. Rodrigues newest single “T.V. WIFE”

“Off with your head,” sings Avishag C. Rodrigues in her single “T.V WIFE”. At first listen, “T.V WIFE” makes you think of Driftmachine or even Fever Ray — with a more simple approach to an atmospheric, post-industrial sound dwindling in our ears thanks to its lo-fi mixing. Avishag C. Rodrigues, known as a the guitarist for Cumgirl8 and a collaborator of various bands including Sloppy Jane, Ryskinder, and Laila shares her new single “T.V WIFE” from her upcoming release through Berlin label Baby Satan Records. The song features Paul Legault on saxophone (which brings a stylistic chaos to the mix) and Mika Bar-On on vocals. Rodrigues, who is originally from Tel-Aviv and based in New York, has an upcoming debut album that will be released with Garzen Records later this year.  “T.V WIFE” chants from within as an exploratory workshop of sounds and moods. Rodrigues studies landscapes created by pop-inferno synths that shape shift into a layered world of avant-garde pop. It’s a little late 70’s and a little dark wave. Even more structural and complicit is its video, where it evokes a virtual reality just like the scenes in The Lawnmower Man. Are we awake? Are we asleep? Avishag seems to be just right in between.
