This is not your Dad’s Othello, or wait, it came out in 1952, so it is your Dads, Othello. Actually, it’s probably your Grandfathers. Anyway, directed and starring Orson Welles in the title role as the Moor, Othello, Orson Welles blows you away! His adaptation of Shakespeare’s classic storms down the dark corridors of jealousy, exposing the dangers of letting yourself be swallowed by your ego. A brilliant tragedy and a classic film. I saw an interview with Welles where he explains that in order to get the mink coat he wears in the film, which he could not afford, he took a role in another Hollywood movie and stipulated in his contract that the robe provided for him in his dressing room be lined in mink, so that he could turn it inside out and use it for Othello. (The interview is on youtube somewhere) He was pretty awesome. Make sure you catch it before it’s gone. You have until May 8th! Buy your tickets here.
