Is it just me, or have there been these ongoing *space* vibes across the interwebz and IRL as of late? From the hype surrounding The Martian, to that amazingly rare “super-harvest blood moon” last month, and with everyone’s constant complaining about Mercury Retrograde — don’t ‘worry, it’s over on October 9th and won’t return until January — the mysteries of deep space seem to be coming up quite regularly. And since space, aliens and black holes are crazy-interesting, let’s keep going with it.
- If you somehow managed to miss the release of the new X-Files trailer, watch it right now. Afterwards, go back to 1993 and re-live all 9 seasons of Mulder’s and Scully’s envy-inducing exploits on Netflix.
- Listen to the weirdly enchanting Bowie-esque song (sung/voiced by the wonderful Jemaine Clement) featured in season 2, episode 2 of Rick and Morty, “Goodbye Moonmen.” Then, head over to Reddit and go nuts.
- Peep the crazy photos of the running water on Mars, released by NASA on October 1st. This basically means that Martians exist, right?
- Field trip! Visit the Hayden Planetarium at The American Museum of Natural History. They offer some intriguing presentations on science and space-related stuff, such as this upcoming lecture regarding “Spooky Action At A Distance.” Spooky action, or “the ability of one particle to affect another instantly across the vastness of space, appears to be almost magical.” Go on, get educated.
- Traverse space and time with a crazy extraterrestrial species AKA the ‘Great Race of Yith’ in H.P. Lovecraft’s novella The Shadow Out of Time. It’s bold, but some say this is Lovecraft’s greatest work.
- Check out the story of Ionel Talpazan and his fascinating artwork. As a young boy, Talpazan recalls seeing a UFO, and went on to recreate amazing images that come “from another galaxy.” He unfortunately passed away 2 weeks ago (RIP) but will forever live on through his intergalactic imagery.
