When I first came across Bandersnatch, the Netflix choose-your-own-adventure film, I became somewhat obsessed. It was anti-instinctual as I had to actively fight my anxiety and paranoia as I selected each new option as I watched the ticker trickle down, but I loved the rush, the feeling as if you had choice, when in reality, you had your limited options pre-selected for you.
The same can be said for the music video for “Voodoo Success” from the new supergroup Kairo Creature Club, featuring members from La Luz, BOYTOY, and more. Going through a night at a house party, you, the viewer, are given control of what direction the night can go. But be warned, not all answers are correct. Visually and conceptually, this is one of the coolest videos I’ve seen in a minute. We’ve been blessed with many a creative alternative to the traditional music video format during quarantine and socially distancing, but when it comes to innovation, this takes the cake. Musically, it’s groovy, has a sexy bass line, and a dark and mysterious sort of feel while still having that element of party and danger that’s shown in the video. The vocals are haunting, having an airy sort of quality as if you could’ve dreamt them. But enough of my going on, you should just check it out for yourself.
