Review: Deerhunter @ Converse Rubber Tracks (10/18)

You know those bands that you plan on eventually checking out as all of your friends are like, “I can’t believe you never listen to so-and-so! You would love them!” And you’re like, “I know, I know. I will.” But then you just keep forgetting? That’s how I’ve been with Deerhunter for several years. On Friday night, I had a friend convince me to join her at Deerhunter’s Fader show, and I finally realized why so many of my music-loving friends have been trying to get me to listen to this group for so very long; in short, they’re awesome. Their sound resembles old-school psychedelic rock, but with a refreshing and modern take. They were also ultra engaging and had such an amazing stage presence with a band-audience connection that really made me appreciate the artists who love their fans. Also major bonuses: there was an open bar and the band was introduced by DIDDY.
