Review: Figgy @ Glasslands (10/18)
Although it might sound a little cheesy, I think the most appropriate way to describe Figgy’s music is that it sounds like happy vibes and sunshine. The MA/NYC DJ and producer makes euphonious dance tracks that are usually put into the house category, but his way of culling inspiration and combining elements from such a diverse range of genres — from garage to jazz to R&B — make for a truly unique and innovative sound that’s actually somewhat difficult to describe to someone who hasn’t heard it for him/herself. Each of his expertly crafted original tracks are totally catchy and immediately make you feel the need to dance along, and his eclectic set of remixes do the same after he fully reinvents radio-friendly pop tracks from artists like Drake and T-Pain in the best possible way. Between sets by Real Magic and Tourist, Figgy’s performance at the Pigeons & Planes & PopGun show at Glasslands was naturally filled with energy and soul, and it was basically impossible to not partake in the dance party.
