The first word that came to mind when seeing Night Terrors of 1927 at Bowery Ballroom on Tuesday night was “exuberant.” The five-member band blends its male and female voices into a bright, electro-pop for a performance that was easy on the senses, but energizing at the same time. Not bad for a band named after a “great plague in Mexico” that struck in 1927, according to the band’s keyboardist, Lolo White. This was the first New York show for the L.A.-based group, which came together when two seasoned indie vets, Blake Sennett (formerly of Rilo Kiley and the Elected) and Jarrod Gorbel (of Honorary Title), teamed up. The result is something studied, but of the moment. Night Terrors will be releasing its EP, Guilty Pleas, on November 5th.
