Porcelain Raft @ Glasslands Gallery
What better venue for the mad scientist of synth than the intimate stage at Glasslands Gallery with its tubes of alien blue light? Far from being the dreamy, blissed out production I’d come to expect from listening to the recorded tracks, Porcelain Raft (Mauro Remiddi, joined by two musician friends) was a little more heavy-handed with the experimental noise and technical screwiness. They maneuvered their instruments with the gusto of a young Allen Ginsburg (though I may only be drawing that comparison because the drummer kinda looks like him). Porcelain Raft proved an exciting act with a far more advanced handling of “titties” than A$AP Mob at Webster Hall later this same night (a true man exposes his screenprinted breasts for the crowd — not the other way around).
