Tei Shi @ Baby’s All Right (10/21)
At first glance, Tei Shi kind of looks like an exotic actress from the Golden Age. But when you begin to observe her stage presence and nature, you can see that she’s a whole lot more than just a stylish gal with a pretty face. Her electronic beats are pop-y yet dark with sultry hints of R&B, and her incredible voice makes her already-sexy lyrics — Ex. I wanna ride you like the highest roller coaster — sound even sexier. Tei Shi opened Mom+Pop’s CMJ showcase at Baby’s All Right on Tuesday evening, and a high bar was set for the remainder of the night. After opening with an original track, she moved on to her #flawless cover of Beyonce’s ‘No Angel‘ and the crowd was appropriately transfixed. Like most CMJ performances, her set was relatively brief, but she was able to play the hits, show off some amazing Michael Jackson-esque dance moves, and fully captivate the crowd with her awesome vocals.
So bassically (sorry, I had to), if you’re not familiar, then get familiar — like right now.
