CMJ: Twin Peaks @ Rough Trade

Night four of CMJ’s Marathon and it finally stopped raining. It was also suddenly t-shirt weather again, which was even cooler (figuratively speaking). I really had only one plan for the night: I needed to see that Chi-City rock ‘n’ roll band Twin Peaks. So with no rain and reasonably warm weather on my side, I was heading back to Brooklyn! People complain about Brooklyn not being cool anymore but Manhattan is so much worse. It looks like a golf course on the weekends. Anyway, I headed over to Rough Trade — one of the last record stores in the city, which is also doubles as a cool music venue — and caught Twin Peaks.

These dudes killed it! Everybody in that band could be a frontman, their stage presence was that incredible. More than 12 hours after the show and my ears were still ringing. Which is what happens when you stand between the speakers against the stage, as four rad dudes slay the crowd. I was feeling like shit all day, but these dudes really brought my ass back to life. Good Lawd, “Flavor” is a banger! The crowd loved these dude too. Girls hypnotized in the front row, mosh pit in the middle, everyone bugging out — it is hard to stand still taking pictures when a band is this good. Twin Peaks has that sort of “school’s out” energy, which is simply infectious. These guys are an incredible band and another reason why Marathon is so awesome.
