When it comes to the dreamy psych-pop singles created by Daydream Review, it should be noted that the band isn’t exactly doing anything new here. But they are doing it well, and what they are doing is so rare these days that it might as well be brand new. I genuinely can’t think of another band that is delving into this sort of 1970s acid music as devotedly as Daydream Review but watching their new video for “With You” makes me wonder why it’s such an unpopular choice. The music itself is beautiful, dreamy, and otherworldly. And the video was either created during an acid trip or whoever did create the video had recently taken one because those Gumby like creatures are not normal.
It’s not that the music sounds exactly like the Beatles because it doesn’t. Rather that the Beatles are the go to point of comparison when it comes to this sort of music. That’s a lofty height to live up to, but Daydream Review does it seamlessly. “With You” is a romantic track that paints a picture of drifting in and out of love, feeling lost to it and living in the haze of it. Like a very good acid trip. I’m pretty sure those Gumby figures are supposed to be falling in love. God bless Shane Beam for animating that image, I’m going to have to call him up for my next trip. Maybe Daydream Review can come too.
Daydream Review is headlining The Subterranean (Chicago) to celebrate their single release on February 19th with friends Flora, Breether, and Faux Furrs
