Interview: Weird Womb

Weird Womb are a punk outfit compromised of rowdy Tucson transplants who have nestled themselves quite nicely into Brooklyn and the local scene. They just celebrated the release of the EP titled Laziness last week at Shea Stadium and if their recent music and videos are any indicator, they definitely haven’t lost any of that signature Arizonian weirdness. Stream their EP and get to know the band below.

So Weird Womb is an interesting name. Where does it come from?

We’ve given so many fictitious stories surrounding the name that I actually forgot where it came from.

Laziness is one hell of an EP. What was it like working on it? Was the process as rowdy as the sound?

You want an honest answer? Well here it goes: we recorded in Toronto during a morose and heavy winter. We spent the days reading vintage Playboys, worrying about the engineer-in-training’s ragged socks, Johnny broke Eric’s ribs, pinball, running to the state sponsored liquor store before they closed, life as a highway, listening to crazy eddy the coherent  lunatics long winded voice mails life is a highway and being generally happy that we didn’t have to work.

What do you like about being a Brooklyn band? And what do you dislike about it? Do you miss Tucson?

A young Jodie foster once said Tucson is the weird capital of the world. That city houses some of the most talented burn outs and lovable weirdos. Something about the desert and our strange union with Mexican culture. Brooklyn is great because I can get deli sandwiches, cat foot and a tall boy at 4:30am.

Leisure time is best spent…?

Trying to figure out how Lars Ulrich is such a great drummer.

Name five books everyone should read.

How to Talk Dirty and Influence People by Lenny Bruce
Journey to the End of the Night by Louis-Ferdinand Céline
The People from Heaven by John Sanford
Ask the Dust by John Fante
Hunger by Knut Hamsun

Any lifehacks / tips on how to live a more fulfilling life here in NYC and in general?

Lie on your work resume.

What can we expect from you guys in the next couple of months?

Balding and maturity.
