Los Angeles-based singer-songwriter Jillian Banks, better known as Banks, exudes mystery. And it’s this brooding mystique that’s attracting heavy buzz and a blossoming fanbase. After releasing her London EP last fall, she toured with the Weeknd and snagged the chance to work with big name producers including SOHN and Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs. Banks’ latest track “Brain” (produced by Shlohmo) enters as a slow-moving seduction. It’s laced with bare-boned lyrics (like, “I can see you struggling, boy don’t hurt your brain…cause everything’s a game..”) and an infectious “woah-oh-oh-oh-yeah” hook. At the two-minute mark, the chilling crescendo explodes into a rage of ghostly screams and hypnotic beats. Yeah, it’s good. Listen below and keep a look out for Banks’ debut LP later this year.
