As we previously reported, Cloud Nothings have a new album coming out in April. Here and Nowhere Else consists of eight tracks and was produced by John Congleton, whose production credits almost assuredly includes one of your favorite bands. Main creative force Dylan Baldi said of the new album: “I had nothing to be angry about really so the approach was more positive and less ‘fuck everything.’ I just sat down and played until I found something that I like, because I was finally in a position to do that.” That seems like a good position to be in. The first song we heard form the album was excellent, and now we have a second that goes by the name of “Psychic Trauma.”
Once you hear the song, you know there’s only one thing to talk about: the almost seamless time shift at 45 seconds in. The song begins a little slower than most of their recent work, and it almost feels confusing. Once that time shift happens, they jump into thrashing speed, and it all comes together. It’s almost so fast that the band can’t keep up. Needless to say it’s quite impressive as a whole. Listen below.
Here and Nowhere Else is out April 1st on Carpark / Mom+Pop (US), and March 31st on Wichita (UK/EU).
