I realize people’s opinions on Drake are mixed, but there is one thing you can’t deny: when he is feeling confidant, he’s one of the most interesting men in hip hop. For example, look at “Worst Behavior,” from his last album, 2013’s Nothing Was The Same. Call him fake or “Wheelchair Jimmy” all you want, but when his flow is on, he’s extremely fun to listen to.
This is the version of Drake we get on “0 to 100 / The Catch Up,” a seemingly randomly released track just to keep us interested. And interested we are! Not only is it a pretty awesome song in itself, it features a James Blake sample and not so subtly hints at the release date for Drake’s next album (spring ’15). Side note: It’s nice to see James Blake getting more and more into the hip hop world, whether it’s directly or indirectly. If the “Life Round Here” remix was any indication, he could do some interesting stuff. But this is about Drake in the end. I mean “he’s only 27 and he’s only getting better.” Quite the boast, but if this song is any indication, he might just be right. Listen below.
