A melancholic collective based in Portland, OR, Grand Lake Islands’ sound is something like a midnight drive under the bay of country western stars. “Song From Far,” the first track released off their upcoming LP, takes me back to the times I’d head home late Sunday night after spending the weekend at my ex-girlfriend’s place an hour away. The feeling of those drives was always solemn, dark, and filled with nighttime, summer air, as I’d roll the window down to have myself a cigarette. The track is more or less a reflection, with Emanuelson (the leader of the band) looking back at the beginning of some change that’s swept through what he knew of his old life. This track has definitely peaked my interest, and I intend to check out the album when it drops. I suggest you do the same.
