Jimmy Whispers’ “(Summer in Pain)” is the lo-fi, indie-pop anthem to my summer of last year. I dragged myself back home to Illinois because I was broke and couldn’t find a job to save my life. So I was held up in my parents’ house, lounging around my hometown, hating everything. Lines like “summer in hell washing over us” bring me back to those feelings of boredom and self-loathing I had being back home. Jimmy’s vocals captures my lonesome time, and surrounded by repetitive synth riffs and a steady snare beat, that unfortunate monotonousness really pops and flashes back to life. If you’ve ever had a shitty summer, or are simply not looking forward to going back to your parents’ place after another year of college, this song is for you.
