Listen: Life Size Maps “This Same House”

In conjunction with the announcement of a multiweek residency at Pianos on the Lower East Side, Life Size Maps has released “This Same House,” one of the first completed tracks from their upcoming debut LP. Mike McKeever formed the Brooklyn trio in 2011, developing a sound that pretty cleanly melds glitchy electronica with upbeat indie pop (DIY-but-not-quite-lo-fi?).

“This Same House” exemplifies the group’s penchant for combining pulsing indie pop with dreamlike soundscapes splintered by the glitches of an electrical circuit gone haywire. Their sound is frenetic but doesn’t include the heavy distortion featured on most of the noise pop out there today. The lyrics of this track channel the restlessness of a creative spirit seeking an outlet, wrestling with a mind that is “tangled up and bound.” But the frustration of being 22 and “wasted again” with no prospects doesn’t apply to these guys anymore. As Life Size Maps continues with its Pianos residency this month, it looks like they’ve found a new creative home with a promising outlook. Listen below.

Life Size Maps’s as yet untitled debut LP comes out later this year.
