SBTRKT wants to leave you drugged up and disoriented in a far away universe. At least, that’s why I think he deemed “Voices In My Head feat. A$AP Ferg” to be the perfect track to close his highly anticipated new album Wonder Where We Land. But even if you’re not a fan of drugs, you’re going to want to give this one a listen: It’s one of the artist’s favorite tracks.
London’s SBTRKT loved this track so much he took it to three different metropolises and collaborated with an array of inspiring artists, among them Stella and Emily of Warpaint (for drums and vocals, respectively) and, of course, A$AP Ferg. “This started with me having a seed idea but seeing it grow way beyond that with these multi-layers of collaboration and places,” says Aaron Jerome about his song on Soundcloud. Kind of like a small pill that enfolds into an entire universe in your head? Maybe. One thing is for sure: It’s just as addicting, as 113,461 hits in 20 hours show clearly.
The track starts off with a psychedelic intro and takes you on a trip to otherworldly spheres – making you wonder indeed where exactly you will land. Languid and kind of sloppy, especially through A$AP Ferg’s vocals and the jazz-y piano, the song puts you in a state of trance that leaves you longing for more after the unexpectedly melancholic piano solo fades out. Ah, the good old comedown. At least this one doesn’t bear any negative consequences.
So, go ahead, listen below as often as you’d like.
SBTRKT’s new album Wonder Where We Land will be released on September 29, 2014, on Young Turks Recordings.
