Listen: scared ‘I’m Your Dog’

“Well all I do is bark and whine, when you’re gone. I’m your dog” sings scared vocalist Ada Chen on her premiere single, ‘I’m Your Dog’.  If you’ve ever had a dog with separation anxiety (I have a frenchie), then you understand the sentiment. According to Ada, she wrote the song about her ex back in 2024, “I had become emotionally dependent on being there for him unconditionally and the addictive validation I was looking for by being devoted, despite all the flaws and the pain the relationship caused me.” As a photographer, Ada knows much of NYC’s music scene. So when she reached out to Seb Isaac, who later comes to produce the track, he says “Why don’t you come in for a session next week?”  She also tells me her roommate, Frank Corr (Morning Silk, The Drums), must have heard her working on songs in her room and asked to hear some more of the music. He links her with his label manager (Superbloom Records, also known by his artist name as url). Ada adds, “I came to realize this song was never really about the break up or my ex… It was a song about me; about my huge capacity to love and my love for loving people I care about. Sometimes it will be taken advantage of, but I realized it’s something I earnestly celebrate about myself.” After years of making music that she was too afraid to share, the scared artist has finally broken out of her shell with the support of her friends. And with her debut EP set to be release by the end of the year, we can’t wait to hear what more she has in store for us. Listen to “I’m Your Dog’ below.
