SIA SIA SIA! Her new album, 1000 Forms of Fear is out in a few weeks. We (I) have been hyping it up since we first heard “Chandeliers”, so it better be amazing. Her newest song from said album, and third we’ve heard so far, is a dour tune by the name of “Big Girls Cry.” It’s an incredibly honest and somewhat unsurprisingly heartbreaking song about the facade people, in this case especially women, put up despite their emotional turmoil.
There is a very common theme running through the songs we’ve heard from the album so far. It’s a feeling of on stage acting versus off stage sadness. This third track seems to take place at the point where the dam can’t be held back anymore, and finds the singer in a dangerous part of her psyche. It makes for a depressing listen, but also showcases Sia’s strongly empathetic songwriting. Check out “Big Girls Cry” below.
1000 Forms of Fear is out July 8 on Monkey Puzzle.
