Spider Bags are back! In 2012, they brought us the excellent Shake My Head, an album where they struggled to find a label that would release it. This time around they seem to be in a much better place. Their new album, Frozen Letter, will be released on none other than Merge Records. That’s a pretty nice change from where they were a few short years ago. The album is out in August, capping what is going to be a hot summer with some cool rock n roll. A couple weeks ago they gave us “Back With You Against The World” and now we have a second song from the album, titled “Japanese Vacation.”

The latter is much more ramshackle than the former, and fits their style a little better. It’s got an almost rockabilly guitar opening that leads into a more familiar punk sound. I’m not entirely sure why the song is called “Japanese Vacation,” as it feels more like a series of strange and surreal observations than anything to do with Japan. But as a whole it’s fun, easy to listen to, and relatively short. This has been the formula for most of their work, and it seems to be working pretty well for them so far. Check it out below.

Frozen Letter is out August 5 on Merge.
