The Shangri-Las are back in 2025 and have taken over the bodies and 60s-dream-girl souls of Tchotchke! The New York-based trio has released its newest single, “Playin’ Dumb,” and its accompanying music video. It’s the title track of the band’s forthcoming album, out September 5.
The vibrant, instant-diner-jukebox classic is such a fitting track to enjoy during these last rays of summer sun, and immediately takes you back to the 60s girl-group days. The video is just as spot-on nostalgic as the song – the girls in matching pink, lace-trimmed leotards, reading old print magazines, performing in front of one of those funny, retro backdrops, and playing with vintage Barbie and Ken dolls.
The fade-out ending (a recording standard back in the ol’ days to fit radio time limits) is the icing on the cake that is a wonderfully executed ode to girl groups like The Ronettes, The Feminine Complex, The Pleasure Seekers, and The Chiffons.
The band’s sophomore album was produced by The Lemon Twigs. Check out the other singles from the album that are out now: “Did You Hear?,” “Poor Girl,” and “Now I Love You.”
