The Head and The Heart are indie folk heavyweights – sunshiny warm vibes, super polished vocal harmonies, and stomping and clapping galore. This week they released “Shake,” the first single from their highly anticipated sophomore album, Let’s Be Still. After making such a big splash with their self-titled debut album in 2011 and signing to the ever esteemed Sub Pop Records (and catching them live in Prospect Park last summer), I have been itching for new tunes from them. My first listen of “Shake,” however, left me strangely unimpressed – something felt flat, or too familiar, maybe easy. But a few spins later I realized I was way too quick to judge: the soulful, carefully nuanced Americana fans know and love is still there, just a little tweaked. And so, I say give this seamless little offering a go, or check out their recent performance on Jimmy Fallon. I’m getting more and more excited to see how it compares to the rest of the album, which drops this October.
