Brooklyn-based singer-songwriter Truman Flyer has released her debut solo single, “True Love.”
The glittering and eloquently layered production sounds like a lost track out of 60s California with its needling guitar picking and ethereal, sliding rhythm. Truman’s wispy, dreamy vocals feel like a delicate kiss, as do lyrics like, “When your cheeks are flushed like when you were young / And you’re dancing tiptoe at the edge of the sun / You’re beaming.” Angelic hums and striking electric strums are sprinkled in, flavoring the track’s bohemian flair and telling of raw musicianship. The song closes with a minute-long instrumental jam.
The longtime musician, who’s been playing in bands including The Living Roomers, Cherrywood, and Sterling for most of her life, began to helm her solo performing project, Truman and The Frequent Flyers, this year. The band – featuring guitarist Kevin Hyland, bassist (and “True Love” producer) Jimmy Staple, and drummer Jasper Williamson – has frequently been gigging all around New York City this summer.
Stay tuned for more gigs and songs from Truman this year.
