Ty Segall is a mix of early Beatles and ’90s garage rock. “Mr. Face” is the type of song that jives. It emits psychedelic visions of a new era of cross-country road trips with ‘flower power’ vans billowing marijuana smoke — all filmed through an old 8 mm camera. I imagine Segall banging away on his guitar playing insane, pentatonic solos — taking swigs of Jack Daniels on stage in an effort to bring back the grit of punk and rock n’ roll. I want to go to one of his shows and dance shirtless in the dark with other drugged out youth. If you’re out in California at the end of January or March, I suggest you so do.
