Young Rapids’ “What R U Saying” is a heavy dose of East Coast artpop with synthesized swoon. This is the first song of 2015 that I’m actually excited about. Like, leaping out of my seat to show my best friend across campus excited, because this track is so original and builds into one hell of a fantastic jam. The song is composed of multiple movements, all showing off different dimensions of the band’s sound: sound sampling of numerous voices, a melancholic piano ballad, indie rock guitar, some synths, and a screeching moan from the lead singer that makes your hair stand up. One listen to this song, and I’ve already decided to purchase their upcoming album when it drops. I suggest you do the same.
