Listen: Yuck “Another One”

2013YUCK-Press1_100913

Yuck has been through a lot in recent memory. In spring of last year they lost their lead singer Daniel Blumberg, who now makes music under the name Hebronix. While other bands might crumble after a change such as this, Yuck took it in stride. They released their impressive sophomore album Glow and Behold later that same year, and any doubts about their ability to continue without Blumberg were put to rest. They’ve released a couple songs since then, which are to appear on a new EP. While we don’t have a release date yet, we know the EP will be called Southern Skies. “Another One” is the latest song we’ve heard from it.

It has many of the staples of the new Yuck. It’s upbeat and largely focuses on ’90s era guitar that verges on Dinosaur Jr. territory (albeit not quite as loud). There are harmonic choruses as well, which are always a treat. A lyric that seems to be repeated quite a lot is “you’re not gonna take my song,” which could be either figurative OR literal, in the case of a band that recently lost a prominent member. Listen below.

Southern Skies should be out sometime this Spring.
