Yuck have just released “Middle Sea,” the second single from their upcoming second album, which they’ve announced will be titled Glow & Behold. This highly anticipated and pun-y return comes to us, once again, by way of Fat Possum Records. It’s out October 1st here in the U.S. and September 30th in the UK. Lucky Brits!
“Middle Sea” is not nearly as swirly and hypnotizing as their first single, “Rebirth,” but instead capitalizes on fuzzy forward momentum. It blasts forth in equal parts grunge and pop straight out of the ’90s. It also features an horn line that’s, somehow, a seamlessly good fit. Fans of their self-titled debut will note that Yuck’s sound has smoothed out a little in each of these singles, with notably more upfront and clear vocal deliveries from new frontman Max Bloom. I’m confident, however, that it’s all the product of progress and that fans will recognize it as such, too.
My prediction is that this lovesick hit is sure to stick. When Bloom croons, “I don’t want to wait forever / I don’t want to wait / I want it now,” I simply couldn’t agree with him more. October is too far.
