Live Show Round Up 8/18 – 8/24

Monday August 18th:

  • Gold Sounds: What Counts, Self Interest, The Tarrys, Comeuppance
    • Cut a sour Monday with hardcore: Bored Friends x Barely Cultured presents a stacked line up with What Counts, Self Interest, The Tarrys, Comeuppance, and Who Remembers. Head to Gold Sounds and hear some Indiana and Ohio straightedge, plus CTHC.

Tuesday August 19th:

Wednesday August 20th:

  • Union Pool: Bloomsday, Why Bonnie
    • In my sophomore year of college, I was obsessed with Why Bonnie’s song 90 in November; it’s the perfect distillation of indie folk-pop. Now, with a second album and EP under her belt, Why Bonnie is playing Union Pool with Bloomsday. Prepare to sway accordingly.

Thursday August 21st:

  • Night Club 101: Heaven Slight, Memory Card, Tal Castle
    • Heaven Slight’s new single Hear you, boy floats, it’s effervescent. This show is for fans of Chanel Beads, and more generally, the nina protocol-verse. Someone needs to coin a descriptor for the digital parallel to cloud rock.
  • Baby’s All Right: Omni, Grumpy
    • A lot has changed since Omni’s hit single Wire dropped in 2016. Do not fret, despite the passage of almost a decade, Omni preserved their classic post-punk feel. Their new single Forever Beginner is of the 2010s indie essentials sound.
  • Elsewhere: Midrift, February, I Promised the World, All Under Heaven
    • Don’t just stand there, at least be human. It’s a requisite to move at this show. I saw I Promised the World (formerly sinema) a few months ago and it’s difficult to find a few words to describe the chaotic, community driven energy present; stage diving, a mosh pit encroaching on the venue’s walls. Jogging down Market Hotel’s steep staircase, drenched in sweat into the pouring rain. I never felt more alive. It’s not all about I Promised the World though, February’s I’d Rather Burn Than Fall is one of my favorite songs right now.

Friday August 22nd:

  • Footlight Presents at the Windjammer: Blue Mena, Otobo, Next 2 Jimmy, Laughing Stock
    • Mena Sachdev of Blue Mena found influence in Arthur Russell and the Cocteau Twins for their solo dream pop project. The music holds hues: “Deep blue/Crashing,” Sachdev sings in Indigo. Their work is coated in a muted, melancholy, color palette.

Saturday August 23rd:

Sunday August 24th:
