Live Show Round Up 10/13 – 10/19

Monday: Oct. 13th

  • Baby’s All Right: Alien Boy, Empath
    • In 2018, I begged my mom to let me see Empath play at a house show. She immediately shut me down. The next day, my coworker at the pizza restaurant told me Empath blew out the house’s electricity and it was the best night of his life. I still think about that. Often. Crystal Reality, Vol. 1 and Liberating Guilt and Fear are some of the best noise punk out there. Go listen.

Tuesday: Oct. 14th

Wednesday: Oct. 15th

Thursday: Oct. 16th

Friday: Oct. 17th

  • Knockdown Center: Oklou
    • Yeah, I’m dropping Oklou twice in this column. There’s nothing wrong about that. choke enough is celestial. It reaches the stars – and it will be transcendent live.
  • Market Hotel: Gingerbee, Keyvslocket, I will be pretty when i die, Zachshots
    • Open the doors to Market Hotel and enter the soft side of the emo spectrum. Acoustic guitars, little electronic blips, instrumentals, sweet, not hardened lyricism. I really hope to make this one.
  • Roulette: Brian Chase, Lee Ranaldo, David Watson
    • These names may seem unfamiliar on first read, but you know who they are. Brian Chase of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Lee Ranaldo of Sonic Youth, and David Watson of Yoshi Wada, Phill Niblock are performing a long-form improvisation uniting psychedelia, traditional sources, and noise.
  • Stone Circle Theatre: Country Girl, Gideon Broshy
    • Dual record release show at Stone Circle Theatre. Gideon Broshy’s debut album Nest is wordless, each experimental track full of malleable and interacting harpsichords, pianos, synths, and software. Country Girl plays with instrumentals as well, wrapped up in gauzy layers of reverb.
  • Brooklyn Steel: Grizzly Bear, Chanel Beads
    • Grizzly Bear hasn’t toured in six years – and now they have a Brooklyn Steel residency from October 13th – 18th. The band told Pitchfork they are ready to “play all the deep cuts.” Prepare accordingly.
