Live Show Round Up 7/28 – 8/03

Monday July 28th:

  • Beacon Theater: Yeah Yeahs Yeahs, Grace Berge

    • Heads will roll Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday night throughout the Yeah Yeah Yeah’s residency at the Beacon Theater. Do not miss the opportunity to see Karen O perform live. Dance dance till you’re dead.

Tuesday July 29th:

Wednesday July 30th:

  • Night Club 101: Robber Robber, Dari Bay, Crate

    • Robber Robber’s post punk, Dari Bay’s pedal steel, and Crate’s alt rock are all drenched in reverb. Not quite shoegaze, not quite dreamgaze, but it’s clear everyone on this bill knows and respects Kevin Shields.

  • Union Pool: We are Scientists ** Record Release **

    • I have not listened to We are Scientists in a minute. Their most well known album, With Love and Squalor, is the type of post-punk revival that reminds me of layering tank tops in 2005. Since then, the band’s released eight studio albums, most recently Qualifying Miles. Union Pool is hosting its record release!

Thursday July 31st:

  • Union Pool: John Maus

    • John Maus’s new single Came & Got stays true to his archetypal lofi sound. 80s inspired synths, indecipherable lyrics, a Korg KR-55; Maus’s music is enigmatic. Someone go to this show and report back to me on Maus’s synth rig in action.

  • Pianos: SkyDaddy, Mark Michele, Aidan Lyons

    • SkyDaddy is everywhere, in the past few years he’s opened for both Black Country New Road and Cameron Winter. While his most recent EP Anchor Chains, Plane Motors, & Train Whistles effortlessly melds jazz and chamber pop, my favorite Skydaddy track is Cradle 2 The Sky featuring Jianbo. Grime x a string quartet… can’t get more melodic than that.

Friday August 1st:

Saturday August 2nd:

  • The Dyckman Farmhouse Museum Porch: The Washington Heights Chamber Orchestra

    • The Washington Heights Chamber orchestra is playing Manhattan’s last standing Dutch colonial farmhouse, built around 1784. Pack a picnic blanket, lay in the garden, and let the classical music wash over you.

Sunday August 3rd:

  • Ruins at Knockdown Center: Angie’s Summer Bbq 2025 (Jim Jones,Trey Songz, Bay Swag, Zeddy Will, Moliy)

    • New York’s Power 105.1 FM is hosting their annual festival, Angie’s Summer BBQ. Let’s hope Ruins has a grill. Nothing can top Jim Jones, Trey Songz, Bay Swag, Zeddy Will, Moliy plus barbequed ribs.
