Photo diary: Indigo De Souza at The Vera Project (Seattle)

Not to be dramatic, but Indigo De Souza reminded me why I love live music so much. Being able to put her pain into the songs themselves and have the performance be a release, a letting go, and a celebration was a beautiful and cathartic experience. She never shies away from the darkness, but follows it up with a giggle. Every track felt as if the words were coming to her just in that moment and she was living it through fully with the audience. Any Shape You Take is up there with the best releases of 2021 and watching it live further solidified De Souza’s chops as a lyricist and musician. As an audience member, you wanted to laugh, cry, and scream all through the night and what is live music’s purpose if not to make you feel something significant in the moment in which you’re experiencing it.

Indigo De Souza recently announced a New York show this coming January after selling out Baby’s and Zone One this fall. Be sure to get your tix before this one sells out, too.
