Tokyo born, London bred garage rock band DYGL doesn’t hide its classic rock influences, nor should it. Their debut album was produced by legendary Strokes guitarist Albert Hammond JR, and the upcoming follow up Songs of Innocence and Experience, due July 3rd is produced by Rory Attwell from Test Icicles, who’s produced records for the likes of Palma Violets and The Vaccines.
With that being said, though the influences are clear in DYGL’s music, this isn’t a retread of everything we’ve seen before. DYGL brings a fully Millenial mindset into their music; this mindset is most apparent in their latest single “Don’t You Wanna Dance In This Heaven”.
“The world is falling to pieces…”, the vocalist insists during the middle of the track. It’s a very punk sentiment. It’s also true, the world is falling to pieces, the system is broken and something needs to change. Maybe we should be the ones to do something about it. Punk music has always been about a certain dissatisfaction with the status quo. With that being the case, never has there been a more ideal time for this dissatisfaction to produce action. Punk is ready for a comeback, and DYGL is ready to bring it back.
In the meantime though, let’s all enjoy dancing in this fucking heaven.
