Premiere: Kewl “Glamour Muscles”

Honey. Syringes. Bears. Oh my.

Dark, alluring, and a touch disturbing, the video for Kewl’s hypnotic “Glamour Muscles” renders the cast of classic nursery tale Goldilocks and the Three Bears in a new, nightmarish light, tracking themes of abduction, addiction, and inebriation through the depths of a hazy suburban basement.

After being presumably kidnapped, Goldie Lox works to escape from the dungeon of vices where sinister figures in bear masks dwell in all their revelry.

A project of Brooklyn-based musician John Deluxe, Kewl is largely a one-man venture, with Deluxe playing every instrument and recording each song himself.

Of the name, Kewl, and the inspiration for the video, Deluxe says:

WHAT’S KEWLER THAN BEING KEWL??? ‘ICE COLD’ MAYBE… KEWL WAS ALMOST CALLED ICE COLD.

‘KEWL’ IS LIKE AN UNCOOL, SARCASTIC WAY TO REPLY TO YOUR FRIEND’S TEXT WHEN THEY SAY SOMETHING ROMANTIC ABOUT THEIR GIRLFRIEND OR SEND YOU A PICTURE OF THEIR CAT; IT’S LIKE, ‘KEWWWWWWL DUUUUUUDE.’

THIS VIDEO IS PRETTY KEWL. IT’S LIKE IF THE THREE BEARS WAS DIRECTED BY TOBE HOOPER. MY FRIEND SAMFORD JERKED HIS LITTLE ONE INCH OF RAD FOR THE FIRST TIME TO THE FIONA APPLE VIDEO ‘CRIMINAL,’ WHICH IS PRETTY KEWL AND ALSO WHAT INSPIRED THE LOOK OF THIS VIDEO… I GUESS? MY BOY IVAN LIT AND SHOT THE THING; I EDITED IT AND HELPED SAMFORD DIRECT IT.

I REALLY HOPE HONEY BUTT CHUG CATCHES ON, THAT’D BE KEWWWWWLLL DUUUUUUUDE.

– KING KEWL
