If you are at all familiar with Tall Juan and his usual brand of loud, messy, authentic punk rock, then listening to his latest single “Vienes Y Te Vas” is going to feel like a 180-degree departure. In the words of Luke Skywalker “This is not going to go the way you think”. In “Vienes Y Te Vas”, Tall Juan hearkens back to his Argentinian roots, slowing and stripping it down for a folkloric melody, paying homage to classic Cumbia music.

The track narrates a rare type of breakup where both parties know that the ending is the right choice and seem to actually be ok with it. For the video, directed by Argentinean musician Guido Colzani, we see Tall Juan wake up in the morning, and drive around the city, thinking about all the reasons why he is excited to leave his girlfriend. I’m going to be a ho here for a moment and just point out that Tall Juan is so fucking hot. Like kudos to his girlfriend but I’m different. If I were losing THAT, I would be miserable. The whole video is shot in a very Miami trash kind of light. Vivid, yellow, hospital lighting permeates everything, and we seem to have traveled back to the ’80s in terms of fashion. Tall Juan still looks hot even with all the Hawaiian shirts.

I don’t want to spoil the ending for all of you, but there is one occurrence that made me laugh so hard that I fell out of my chair and scared my cat. Tall Juan’s humorous take on breakups is refreshing in light of all of the misery and angst that we usually see in music these days. All in all if you are looking to brighten up your day via eye candy or a good laugh, then this video is for you.

On the video, Tall Juan shares, “Cumbia music was the soundtrack of my childhood in my neighborhood back in Argentina. I wasn’t very into it back then. I was more into Punk rock or whatever music i thought was cooler, but i would still play almost everywhere i went to. Now looking back i realize it represent me more than any other genre. That’s why i decided this time to record a version of a classic Cumbia from South America. The video was directed by my Argentinean friend musician Guido Colzani. I’m very excited for everyone to see what we have done.”
