Premiere: Watch Pure Adult’s enthralling and unsettling “Cam Girls”

Enthralling and hypnotic, taking turns where roads are not meant to be crossed, Pure Adult translates to an entity of its own. Pure Adult’s (Bianca Abarca and Jeremy Snyder) newest single “Cam Girls” also comes packing a new video, where a plethora of intrusive and unsettling videos of forgotten eras are collaged together, like a history class on mushrooms. Towards the end of it, we are finally shown a glimpse into the band’s live act. For Snyder “Cam Girls” translates into a representation of our current state. “We’re all cam girls in a mass surveillance state. Whether you like it or not, you’ve likely been a webcam model for some invasive corporate and governmental data-collecting,” he shared. At the end of the day, “Cam Girls” summons beyond the coherent reality we are all living, as both altercation and understanding collide and shimmer through the musical hurricane that disembowels in front of us. “Cam Girls” does not try to fully explain how American culture — a co-founder of surveillance and data recovery in a historical effort is — but it shows how vulnerable we have become and how complacent we are to this man-made nature. There is one way to carve one’s path in the world, and that is one of being fearless and in control – “Cam Girls” might not be Pure Adult’s opus but it is a great right turn in the right direction.

“Cam Girls” is out on July 1 via Poor Man Records. Follow Pure Adult on Instagram, Facebook, Bandcamp YouTube , Spotify. Pure Adult will also be supporting Mdou Moctar in September 2021. You can find ticket links on their linktree
