Song Premiere: Pompeii “Loom”

Pompeii is known for creating soundscapes, and “Loom,” their second single (and the title track) off their upcoming album following a five year hiatus, is just as you’d expect: vast, melancholic, and boiling with energy. Opening with a swell of strings and sparse piano accompaniment, “Loom” elegantly crescendos to seemingly desperate vocal refrains, which are then overcome by walls of distortion and propulsive drum work. If this track is any indicator, LOOM is going to be a hard-hitting journey of immersion, nuance, and atmospherics — and we can’t wait.

The album, produced by Erik Wofford (My Morning Jacket, Explosions in the Sky) and mastered by Jeff Lipton (Arcade Fire, Bon Iver), is set to drop from Red Eye Transit on October 14th, and Pompeii is scheduled to perform at CMJ* this year — so be sure to get your tickets.
