So the thing I half-joked about last week… the possible release of a My Bloody Valentine album? Yeah, it happened. Unless you are constantly shoegazing (get it? It’s a music joke! Okay sorry…), you know it was released last Saturday night. Have you listened to it? What did you think? If you haven’t you can buy it here, or you can go listen on YouTube because who shells out $16 for digital albums anymore?! Anyway, here are the other notable releases for this week! Click through the album covers to listen on Spotify.
Listen:
So this isn’t a music album. It’s a comedy album by the dude who voices Gene on Bob’s Burgers. If you haven’t seen Bob’s Burgers please do! But be warned that it is hard to separate Mirman’s voice from Gene’s face, making this album very funny. His description of his time spent posting on a Tea Party message board is great, as is the section where he answers advice questions from the audience. He also plays a theremin at one point so there is music involved somehow!
The Man Who Died In His Boat is great music to listen to for when you’re just waking up, as lame as that sounds. It’s relaxing and emotive, it’ll help you get lost in whatever it is you are supposed to be working on.
Guards’ In Guards We Trust is catchy, fun indie pop that never gets too saccharine sweet.
I listened to Eels’ Wonderful, Glorious as I was assembling a desk. The opener “Bombs Away” definitely got me pumped for putting Leg A into Base E or whatever. Basically, if you’re going to do some menial work, this album is the one to listen to.
Soundcheck has a cool discussion called Feminism, Beyoncé, And the ‘Mrs. Shawn Carter Show’ on Beyoncé of course. It’s interesting, like the audio version of a think piece. You can listen to that here.
Watch:
Number One Nice Guy of Rock, Dave Grohl, interviews Nas about the Grammys, hip hop beefs, and more. The video quality is pretty meh but its worth it to learn that Nas took part in an Emmy-winning documentary.
An interview with the music programmer behind Watch The Throne in LA Weekly. She also happens to be a violin virtuoso and was the violin player in ‘Ye and Jay’s “No Church In The Wild”.
An interview with Winston Yellen of Night Beds over at MTV Hive.
Can we just talk about how cool and self-assured Willow Smith seems? SHE’S 12!
Random Nostalgia:
Go read about how it is the 25th anniversary of the Nick Cage and Coen Brothers masterpiece Raising Arizona. If you’ve never seen it, it’s available on Netflix! Don’t act like you have anything better to do during a snowstorm.
