Watch: Earl Sweatshirt “Grief”

Earl Sweatshirt just released an over-exposed video for “Grief,” a sedate, minimalist track off of his upcoming album, I Don’t Like Shit, I Don’t Go Outside. Murky synth tones and sparse percussion serve as the gloomy backdrop for Sweatshirt’s dynamic lyrics and flow, which vacillates between anxiously quick and desperate and defeated. The black and white video, shot with an almost video game like feel, follows the rapper as he smokes and trudges his way through a strange, viscous depression. The combination of emotional vulnerability and compelling visuals make this an incredibly strong first taste of what’s to come.

I Don’t Like Shit, I Don’t Go Outside is out March 23 from Tan Cressida (Columbia Records).
