Pink Mexico’s Robert Preston Collum and long-time collaborator Mike Forst fused their talents in their latest project GUNK. They released the song “We’re on a Time Crunch Baby” as a music video on 1/17, teasing the style of their new album, GUTWAR.
The track blends gritty and melodic elements, fusing jazz, punk and alternative with nu-Punk esq guitar and rowdy vocals (and some yells to keep things interesting). The video for “We’re on a Time Crunch Baby” executes the perfect amount of chaos to keep up with the track with flashing visuals of sped-up, reversed, and choppy vintage videos behind the lyrics. The lyrics are exactly what I’d imagine from a band called GUNK. — they capture the feeling of a gritty night out at a sweaty dive bar or venue. We’re surrounded by random people (and lizards…and clones) with one common ground: one day we’ll die alone!
About a week later GUNK. hit us with their second single off GUTWAR called “Pulp.” This one’s got some full-bodied, melodic guitar with what feels like a hugely 70s influence; a booming classic rock sound that’s short and sweet. I could see School of Rock 2 absolutely bodying this track — if the day ever comes, I’m putting in a good word with Jack Black.
These contrasting tracks have me stoked on what the full album has to offer. With such a diverse sound, it’ll make for an interesting listen
