Watch: How To Dress Well “Repeat Pleasure”

Tom Krell, the man behind the lo-fi R&B project How To Dress Well, just released a devastatingly beautiful video for the first installment of his trilogy off his upcoming album What Is This Heart? You already read our review for “Repeat Pleasure”  so you can assume that the video is amazing as well.  When you first hear  “Repeat Pleasure ” you think it’s going to be the perfect addition to your sex playlist but the video indicates that this song is about a painful journey of loss and love.

This hazy dreamlike piece was directed by Norwegian director Johannes Greve Muskat. In this short film a young man is dealing with family, relationships, guilt and the death of a loved one all in under four minutes. Krell’s artistic vision and powerful, heart-wrenching story will make you feel something in every bone of your body. Don’t miss the Tom Krell cameo where not only does he prove that he has a voice of angel but has impressive acting chops as well. In his interview with The Fader back in 2012, he discussed the difficultly of taking the plunge to the R&B genre:  “I just don’t think of myself as within a given genre. I would prefer to be in an iTunes playlist with ‘X’s & O’s’ by Jeremiah, a couple Terry Riley songs, a Mount Eerie song and maybe a super emotional rap song like ‘Fuck This Industry’ by Waka Flocka.” Krell shared that he would rather “make something ridiculously beautiful.”

Before even viewing the last two installments of his trilogy, I can safely say that Krell has succeeded.

What Is This Heart? will be out June 23rd.
