The psychedelic indie veterans Portugal. The Man have just received a makeover a la Charli XCX for their single “Modern Jesus,” which comes off of their most recent album, Evil Friends. The acoustic guitar, bubblegum synth, and gospel-like choruses have been replaced with subtle and moody electro that any DJ would want in their set. This reimagining is airy, addicting, and nuanced, and what makes it so compelling is how it is able to respect the original while transforming the slightly anthemic indie themes into something club-ready.
