Walking around abandoned streets of New York has never looked so cool. 19-year-old British crooner Archy Marshall (a.k.a. King Krule) has added hip-hop to his impressive repertoire of indie rock, punk-jazz and darkwave. Krule has teamed up with RATKING, New York City’s newest power trio, for the second single off their debut album, So It Goes. In the music video for “So Sick Stories” RATKING and King Krule walk around what seems to be a desolated New York City like they own the place — and perhaps they do.
Though the video and the beat doesn’t seem complex, the content of this track, combined with the backdrop of what seems to be disillusioned and abandoned teens, creates an important work of art and poetry based off these “So Sick Stories” they rap about. “Seems I’m either puffing that bliss or cuffs on my wrist; Yin and Yang, either stinging with pain or bringing that grain; Either way yo it’s all the same thang.”
RATKING’s So It Goes will be released on April 7 via Hot Charity on XL Recordings.
