A lyric video from Sharon Van Etten has finally been released for “Taking Chances” for the upcoming Are We There, the followup to her beautiful Tramp (2012). I say finally because her lyrics have always been one of the more gripping and engrossing features of Van Etten’s music, so it’s nice to see them be front and center. The video for “Taking Chances” is a simple enough representation of the song, with an artist writing out the lyrics in black marker and drawing a plateau and flower-esque watercolors during the brief intermission without lyrics.
“Taking Chances” is a slight departure from anything on Tramp, but Van Etten’s harmonies and recognizable guitar licks are still noticeable enough to add more definition to the more pop and soul influenced sound we should find on Are We There. Watch and listen below.
Are We There is out May 27 on Jagjaguwar.
