Sloppy Jane (aka Haley Dahl) is back with the haunting ballad “Jesus and Your Living Room Floor” off her forthcoming record Madison out November 5th via Saddest Factory Records. Still possessing the same magnetic intensity, “Jesus and Your Living Room Floor” showcases a softer side of Dahl’s musicality while exploring the darker sides of her innermost thoughts.

“It’s about loneliness, mostly,” Dahl shared. “It’s a fantasy about becoming greater in death– someone more interesting than I ever was, more loved than I ever was. It’s also about loving somebody so much that everything they touch becomes God; a photograph, a plastic horse, the floor of their living room. It’s all pretty toxic, honestly! But that’s the best part of writing songs, it’s like building an ugly feeling a pretty little house of its own so that it stops living in mine.”

The song feels as if you yourself are hypnotized, locked in to that same fantasy. Even with the sparsity of the arrangement, “Jesus and Your Living Room Floor” feels larger than life. Perhaps it’s the accompanying video of Dahl fully immersed in the song and the moment or the thoughtful addition of anxious scratching strings whirring with a pulsating percussion ready to burst at the height of the song. Either way, Dahl has created a piece of art that standing alone is incredibly impactful to the watcher or listener, and will likely be even more so accompanied by her full release.

‘Madison’ out November 5th via Saddest Factory Records. You can celebrate the album release in New York City at Baby’s Alright on November 7th.
